Capability

Trade in any currency, report in one.

DataFlow lets you denominate accounts in any currency and keeps exchange rates in Common Setup. Allocation, period-end revaluation and bank reconciliation all understand foreign currency, so your reporting currency stays true without the manual conversions.

The problem

When foreign currency lives in a spreadsheet.

If currency conversion happens outside the ledger, the reported position is only ever an estimate.

Rates re-keyed everywhere

Exchange rates get typed into invoices, journals and spreadsheets separately, so the same transaction converts differently depending on who touched it.

Revaluation done by hand

Foreign-currency balances are revalued in a spreadsheet at period end, then journalled back manually, and the working is hard to trace afterwards.

Unrealised gains stay hidden

Open foreign-currency balances move with the rate, but nobody can see the unrealised gain or loss until the account is finally settled.

Foreign bank accounts fight reconciliation

A statement that arrives in euros or dollars has to be converted line by line before it will match a ledger kept in your base currency, so foreign accounts are the slowest to reconcile.

Frequently asked

Multi-currency questions.

Can accounts be held in a currency other than my base currency?

Yes. Accounts can be denominated in any currency you trade in, while your reporting currency stays constant underneath.

Where are currencies and exchange rates maintained?

Currencies and their exchange rates are held in Common Setup, through Currency Setup and Exchange Rate Edit, so every module converts from the same source.

How does period-end revaluation work?

The Revaluable Accounts window revalues foreign-currency accounts using the exchange rate, and the Potential Currency Gains and Losses report shows the unrealised gain or loss on open foreign-currency balances at a date you choose.

Does bank reconciliation support foreign currency?

Yes. Bank reconciliation supports multi-currency, so foreign-currency accounts reconcile in their own currency.
